RACINE COUNTY — Racine native and former NBA star Caron Butler will speak to youths during two Visioning a Greater Racine events on June 24.
VGR is a community initiative which engages the community, collects its visions of what Racine can be and develops a roadmap for how to get there by 2030.
Butler, known for his commitment to his hometown, will speak to youths about the importance of community.
Butler will start the day with youths at The Prairie School’s Johnson Athletic Center from 10-11:30 a.m. Then he will visit the Park High School Fieldhouse from 2-3:30 p.m. The first 100 youths at each event will receive a signed copy of Butler’s book, “Tuff Juice: My Journey from the Streets to the NBA.”
The free sessions are designed for young people 12 to 18 years old in an effort to hear their ideas about “how to make Greater Racine a flourishing community we are all proud to call home,” stated Tom Buhler, VGR president.
Advance tickets, which allow one student and one parent admission, are necessary for attending. Tickets will be available on June 13 from 4:30–6 p.m. at both branches of the Racine Family YMCA: 725 Lake Ave. and the Mount Pleasant location at 8501 Campus Drive.
